CAFIA imposed a ban on the circulation of food for special dietary use that was offered via Internet and contained high values of heavy metals

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority ordered, with immediate effect, to withdraw from circulation stimulants that were offered for sale via web sites. The company NEWAYS CZ, s.r.o., was offering products although being aware that they had not been approved by the Ministry of Health due to the MRL exceeding values of mercury, lead and cadmium. Laboratories of the State Health

Institute detected values of the mentioned heavy metals several times exceeding the MRL in the following products:

  • NIKOROL - mercury 22.9 mg/kg (admissible quantity: 0.5 mg/kg)
  • ARTHRIN - lead 177.7 mg/kg (admissible quantity: 8.0 mg/kg, cadmium 2.36 mg/kg (admissible quantity:0.5 mg/kg)
  • MASCLIONE - lead 88.8 mg/kg, cadmium 2.34 mg/kg.

The company was offering the products for sale despite having received the negative decision of the Ministry of Health, including the notification about the detected contents of heavy metals. They were also offering other products for sale that were not approved by the Ministry of Health: EASOLVE (date of min. durability-DMD: 11/2003), UTILIZE (DMD: 04/2004), MEGATONIN (DMD: 16601 020615), EXTREME BALANCE (without DMD).

CAFIA issued an order to withdraw immediately from circulation these products and some others whose labelling was incorrect or incomplete, and forbade the company to sell the products via Internet shopping.

NEWAYS CZ, s.r.o., imported the products, presented in the internet offer as herbal stimulating food supplements supporting human health, as a sole importer from the NEWAYS Inc., USA, and was selling them through distributors who continued offering the products in their own web sites.

The above-specified products belong to the category of food for special dietary use, which can be released into circulation only with an approval and under conditions set by the Ministry of Health. The case was reported to the Chief Sanitary Inspector of the CR, Czech Pharmaceutical Chamber and the Ministry of Agriculture.

The CAFIA inspectors took samples of the offered products for laboratory analyses. CAFIA will communicate the results once they are available.
