4. CERTIFICATION

Certification of fruit and vegetables exported to the EU countries

The CAFIA inspectors certify fresh fruit, vegetables and mushrooms. By the European Commission (EC) Regulation No. 902/2002 of May 30, 2002, the CAFIA was recognized as an official Czech certification authority for fresh fruit and vegetable export into the countries of the European Union.

In 2003, the CAFIA issued a total of 143 certificates, with the quantity of the goods certified amounting to 680,417 kg. The most frequently certified commodities were champignons and apples.

Wine certification

In 1992, the CAFIA was authorised by the Committee for Wine of the EU Commission to issue certificates for export of (grape) wine.

In 2003, the CAFIA issued a total of 162 certificates VI1 for wine export. The majority of these certificates (90) were issued for export to Germany, followed with Slovakia (29) and Japan (16).

Other certification

The CAFIA ensured certification of foodstuffs and raw materials for their production in non-regulated sphere, i.e. based on the producers’ requests. The certificates were issued mainly for the purposes of export; therefore, the scope of the tests was usually specified in compliance with the requirements of a foreign customer. In the framework of optional product certification, a total of 22 certificates were issued in 2003.

Certification in the Russian GOST R system

As of February 1, 2003, the CAFIA ceased to carry out certification of foodstuffs and groceries according to the Russian GOST R system. Since then, this certification activity has been ensured by private accredited certification organizations.
