The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) identified pasta adulterated with regard to its declared egg content during routine inspections on the market. The actual egg content of the product was more than one third lower than the amount declared on the packaging. The product concerned is:

Tagliatelle all’uovo, fresh egg pasta, WORLD'S MARKET, 500 g pack, batch number L. 103547, use by: 12 08 26, country of origin: Italy, manufacturer: Raviolificio Lo Scoiattolo S.p.A., Via B. Franklin 8, 21050 Lonate Ceppino, Italy, additional information: veterinary approval mark (veterinary oval) IT 1352 L CE.

Among the ingredients listed on the packaging, the manufacturer declared "egg content 20%". However, laboratory analysis carried out by an accredited laboratory confirmed that the batch in question contained only 11.3% eggs.

The information provided on the packaging was therefore misleading to consumers regarding the actual composition of the food.

CAFIA inspectors collected the non-compliant sample at an Albert Česká republika, s.r.o. store located at Nad Řekou 618, 582 63 Ždírec nad Doubravou. CAFIA ordered the company to immediately withdraw the affected batch from all of its stores and will initiate administrative proceedings to impose a fine.

CAFIA has also submitted the case to the European Administrative Assistance and Cooperation (AAC) system for combating food fraud so that the matter can be further investigated by the competent authorities in the country of origin.
