Consumer warning: salmonella detected in imported chicken breast fillets

06/25/2026

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) warns consumers about the following non-compliant food product:

RB Chicken Breast Fillets, Family Pack, Fresh, Quality Class A, packed in a protective atmosphere, with a use-by date: 25 May 2026, batch number: 26204141, country of origin: Poland. Additional information: Raised in: Poland, Slaughtered in: Poland. Veterinary approval number (veterinary oval): SK 10244 ES.

Laboratory testing confirmed the presence of Salmonella bacteria in the above batch. These bacteria are the cause of salmonellosis, a foodborne illness.

As the product has already passed its use-by date, it is no longer available on the market. However, CAFIA strongly advises any consumers who may still have the product stored in their freezer not to consume it. Freezing has virtually no effect on bacterial contamination.

Inspectors collected the sample from the non-compliant batch at a Tesco Stores ČR a.s. outlet located at Skandinávská 128/2, 619 00 Brno.

CAFIA will submit a notification about the non-compliant product to the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) to enable an investigation in the country of origin.

CAFIA will also initiate administrative proceedings against the inspected operator, which may result in a financial penalty.
