The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) identified two batches of adulterated honey during routine inspections of honey products on the market:

Analysis carried out by an accredited CAFIA laboratory confirmed the presence of so-called amylases foreign to honey in the samples. CAFIA introduced this method for detecting honey adulteration in 2025 as the first country in the EU. The method makes it possible to detect the presence of foreign enzymes that are not naturally found in honey and to determine whether the honey contains enzymes produced by bees.

Inspectors collected both samples at a retail outlet operated by Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s.

CAFIA will initiate administrative proceedings against the inspected entity to impose a fine. At the same time, it will submit a notification to the European Administrative Assistance and Cooperation (AAC) system for combating food fraud so that further investigation can be carried out in the country of origin of the food.
