The session of the Agricultural Committee of the Chamber of Deputies was held on 26th April at the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) in Prague.
The CAFIA management led by Director General Martin Klanica informed the members of the Committee of current problems related to supervision over food quality and safety including the field of public catering where CAFIA inspectors in the previous year detected violation of legislation in every fourth inspection and which thus belongs to the most problematic segment under CAFIA supervision. Practical examples of adulterated foodstuffs and meals including the possibility to compare them with the authentic samples were also available.
Chairman of the Agricultural Committee Jaroslav Faltýnek said after the meeting: “CAFIA belongs to the key pillars of official inspection in the Czech Republic as it consistently performs inspections at all operators in the long-time horizon and significantly contributes to the protection consumers and honest business operators.”
Excursion to the CAFIA reference laboratory in Prague with professional commentary was also a part of the session. This laboratory is, inter alia, specialised in detection of pesticide residues and content of mycotoxins.
