CAFIA ordered to withdraw adulterated fish filets

04/13/2018

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected a non-compliant lot of fish filets with 20% of missing proportion of meat compared to the information provided on the labelling.

Following product is concerned: VICI Rybí filé porce, glazované, hluboce zmrazené (fish filets, glazed, deeply frozen) weight: 300 g, BBD: 05 05 2019, lot: L051117A, producer: As Paljassaare Kalatööstus, Paljassaare tee 30 Tallinn 103 13, Estonia, importer/seller: VICIUNAI Central Europe, s.r.o., Pod Pekárnami 161/7, 190 00 Prague 9.

The producer indicated on the labelling that the meat content (filets of sea fish) was 97%, however, the CAFIA analysis carried out in the laboratory confirmed 76.5% of meat only. The information on the labelling was thus misleading for consumers as regards the real content of meat in the product.

CAFIA inspectors took the non-compliant sample at premises of TEMPO business co-operative in Hradec nad Moravicí. The inspected person was ordered to immediately withdraw the lot in question from the whole retail network. According to the information available so far, the deficient lot consisted of more than 1,700 packages amounting to the total weight over 500 kg.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
