CAFIA found vitamin beverage without vitamin

04/28/2017

During an inspection of vitamin beverages, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found misleadingly labelled foodstuff NUTRI ELEMENTS Zelený ječmen – 100% RAW, dried juice from young barley, packaged à 180 g, with expiration date 01/2018 supplied by: ELKOTEX Ing. Karol Jurášek,  Krivánska street No. 15, 974 11 Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, imported into the CR by Energy Arts, s.r.o., www.nutrielements.cz, country of origin: the USA.

The labelling on the packaging of the foodstuff provided information, inter alia, that vitamin C content in the given packaging amounts to 595mg/100g. However, the laboratory analysis did not detected presence of vitamin C at all as its content was under the level of detectability (5mg/100g). Information on the labelling thus misled consumers. CAFIA ordered the importer to immediately withdraw the non-compliant lot from retail network and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with him.
