The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) banned releasing into circulation of products labelled as “Perníčky plněné – jablko” (batch: 25.12.2004). This product which comes from Polish producer Z.P.H.U. Maria i Janusz Chojecki was imported into the Czech Republic by the company Frape, s.r.o., Praha and distributed by the company Frade Foods, s.r.o., Toužim.
CAFIA inspectors found out that gingerbreads of this batch were affected by colonies of mildews in different stages of growth and are therefore unsafe. For this reason inspectors ordered their immediate withdrawal from the market. In spite of this, it is likely that part of these gingerbreads has already been sold to consumers. CAFIA therefore warns of their consumption and recommends to reclaim them or to destroy them. Colourful packaging of gingerbreads could be attractive mainly for children and that is why CAFIA recommends to parents to be cautious.
With regard to a fact that packagings of the same product of different use by date lacked the obligatory data on storage conditions, CAFIA inspectors also banned to put into circulation the batch labelled with date 09.03.2005.
CAFIA imposed on the exporter and the distributor an immediate withdrawal of unsafe and mislabelled gingerbreads from the market and will initiate administrative proceedings with them. About this finding CAFIA informed Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed by means of which inspectorates of other EU countries are warned.
