According to the decree, mushrooms must not be mouldy, mashed, wormy neither excessively damp. They should be cleaned so as to be dry, however, they must not be cut. Permissible is only one cut made so that the stalk remains together with the cap. Except from yellow boletus the cap must not be peeled. Prescribed storage and transportation temperature for mushrooms is from 0 to 10 degree of Celsius. Goods must be properly labelled with the name of a mushroom, date of collection and use by date which is 3 days after collection. In addition, every person vending mushrooms must have a trade licence, regardless if it concerns a store, market hall or a stand near the road.
CAFIA recommends to consumers to be aware when buying mushrooms at a random seller, especially in cases when mushrooms are already “packed” in plastic boxes. Mushrooms at the bottom may not be fresh and could be mashed or wormy. It is appropriate to ask the seller to unpack them and check the content. If the seller refuse to do so, it is better not to buy them.
CAFIA also points out that it is not possible to vend all wild mushrooms. List of mushrooms that can be released into circulation is determined by the relevant decree.
