The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) strongly protests against the diatribes from the part of the company JSG Food s.r.o., Radobyčice, published as a paid advertisement in MF Dnes of 7 May 2004.
By publishing this advertisement, the company unadequately reacts to clear findings of the Authority, verified in two freelence accredited laboratories.
Current legislation clearly lays down the requirements for honey into which is forbidden to add whichever additives. Results of the laboratory analysis clearly proved that six out of seven samples were adulterated with sugar additives. As it is the company JSG Food, s.r.o. who markets the products, it can not be divested of responsibility for their safety and not even for their authenticity, not regarding the fact whether it was JSG Food who adulterated the honey or not. The assertion of the company that they bought the honeys abroad and did not test them on sugar additives is not determining and does not hold water.
It is not only the competence of the CAFIA but also its duty to inform consumers about the results of inspections, in particular with respect to their interests. CAFIA is always approaching the release of this information with the highest responsibility and after detailed consideration of all facts.
The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority strongly protests against the assertion that publication of the results of its inspections is tendentious and aims to “harm some of the competitors on the market” or that CAFIA acts in this way in the interest of dishonest competitive fight. CAFIA believes the statement of the company JSG Food, s.r.o. which indicates alleged conection with political officials to be absurd, false and blatant.
The priority of CAFIA´s activity has always been the protection of consumer not only in terms of food safety but also in terms of protection from adulterated products. The same principle has been for years respected in the countries of the European Union and there is no reason for CAFIA to approach the deception of consumer in another way.
