Salmonella detected in ground pepper

05/21/2002

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority identified that the spice imported in the Czech Republic from Austria by the company Johann Kotányi, spol. s r.o., is contaminated with salmonella. It concerns the Black Pepper, ground, packed in aluminium bags (20 grams), with the minimum durability date (MDD) of 19.01.2005 and the batch number 08696.

The CAFIA inspectors detected 2,950 bags of the contaminated pepper directly in the importer's warehouse. They immediately imposed a ban on the circulation of the pepper. At the same time the inspectors ordered the importer to withdraw the product in question from the retail trade network of his customers. The importer is also obliged to inform CAFIA how he will carry on handling the withdrawn spices
