Syrup manufactured by Bioland has not been identified in the Czech Republic

07/19/2002

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority carried out a flying preventive inspection in the premises of producers and importers who may import or use in production the glucose syrup produced by the Belgium company Bioland. The CAFIA responded in this way to information of the EU Standing Committee for the Food Chain and Animal Health, informing about a potential contamination of this syrup with the prohibited MPA hormone.

The inspectors carried out inspections in 86 producers of food who could use the potentially contaminated glucose syrup. They were mainly the producers of non-alcoholic beverages and beer, toppings, sugar icings and sweets. CAFIA also preformed inspections in 25 importers of sugar syrups that may have been imported from Belgium or the Netherlands.

None of the inspected syrups was produced by the company Bioland. Nevertheless, CAFIA took preventively two samples of sugar solution of the Belgium origin and one sample of glucose syrup imported from France that have been currently analysed for the MPA hormone.

CAFIA will inform about the results of analyses.
