CAFIA passes its experience of the PHARE projects to Croatian colleagues

02/03/2005

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) representative, Mgr. Dita Havlová, informed delegates of the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry for European  Integration about CAFIA´s  experience in successful drawing on resources from pre-accession PHARE fund. The representatives of both Ministries visited the Czech Republic from 31 January to 4 February within a study program organized by the United States´ Agency for International Development.

CAFIA has been using the PHARE program with success since 1995 both for drawing investment resources – in previous years these were used for e.g. computing technology or laboratory appliances and for technical assistance, training and consultancy. In the years 1995, 1998 and 2002 CAFIA thus within the National Program obtained approximately 3,250,000 EUR from the PHARE fund. The project “Strengthening Food Safety Policy” initiated in 2002 will be finished this year. Within this project CAFIA implements quality management system according to ISO 9001:2000 standard and develops common food safety information system of six supervisory bodies in the Czech Republic that are involved in food or feed inspections.

“It is not easy to prepare the project correctly so that it can be brought to a successful conclusion”, said Dita Havlová after presentation at the Ministry of Agriculture of the CR. “I have rich experience in preparing and realizing projects and I will be glad to share it with our colleagues from Croatia that has been intensively preparing for accession to the European Union”, she added.
