During inspection of quality and health unwholesomeness of wine offered in retail network, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) revealed serious deficiencies in two cases. Company LIVI spol. s r.o., Dubňany imported more than 36 000 litres this wine into the Czech Republic. Wine was filled into two-litre PET bottles and it was subsequently distributed to retail network by company ZLATÝ HROZEN spol. s .r.o., Dubňany.
Laboratory analyses detected deficiencies in following two cases: Hraběnka, dry white wine, lot No. 176, country of origin: Hungary and Hraběnka, dry red wine, lot No. 155, country of origin: Hungary. Presence of added water amounting to 66% was detected in white wine. As regards red wine, presence of unauthorised synthetic dyes was revealed (azorubine, patent blue V and tartrazine).
Both wines also contained higher amount of citric acid than permitted level and lower content of alcohol than indicated on the labelling. Wine also failed to comply with sensoric requirements for taste and aroma. In addition to that, deficiencies in labelling were also detected. Company ZLATÝ HROZEN spol. s r.o. was ordered to immediately withdraw wine from the market.
CAFIA regards such wine adulteration as very serious damage of consumers. The operators thus enrich themselves at the expense of consumers. Administrative procedure will be commenced with company ZLATÝ HROZEN spol. s r.o.
