The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) informs consumers of detection of a foodstuff labelled as “gluten-free” that contains the mentioned allergen in the amount fifteen times exceeding the maximum permitted limit for foodstuffs intended for persons with gluten intolerance.
The laboratory analysis showed presence of gluten in the amount of 294 mg/kg in foodstuff Amaranth KROUŽKY jogurtové (yogurt flavour) packaged à 100 g, best before date by 6th March 2014, producer Amaranth life s.r.o., Brněnská 158, 667 01 Židlochovice. Pursuant to European Regulation No. 41/2009 on the composition and labelling of food for persons with gluten intolerance, a foodstuff labelled as “gluten-free” must not contain more than 20 mg/kg of this substance. With regard to the abovementioned fact, the foodstuff is harmful to human. CAFIA ordered immediate withdrawal from the market. 180 pieces of the unsatisfactory lot was delivered into retail network in the CR including shops focused on foodstuffs for allergic persons. CAFIA recommends all consumers with gluten intolerance that they do not consume the foodstuff concerned.
