Warning for consumers: foodstuff unsafe for allergic people

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter “CAFIA” only) ordered Penny Market s.r.o. to withdraw foodstuff Carré Piškoty Meruňka, piškoty s meruňkovým želé (sponge biscuit with apricot jelly in chocolate), packaged à 150 g, best-before-date by 9. 12. 2013, distributor: Penny Market s.r.o., country of origin: Poland. Laboratory analysis revealed presence of allergen milk protein in concentration of 53 milligram per kilogram.  Due to the fact that producer failed to provide the information on the presence of the allergen on the labelling, the foodstuff was evaluated as unsafe for human health and posing a risk to people allergic to milk protein. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002, CAFIA ordered the company to withdraw the foodstuff in question from all its shops.    
The retail network put 36,960 pieces of the unsatisfactory foodstuff into circulation. 211 pieces were withdrawn by the seller on the basis of the imposed measure. CAFIA recommends all consumers suffering from milk protein allergy they do not consume the foodstuff in question. The foodstuff was sampled within an inspection activity focused on the presence of allergens in foodstuffs.  

CAFIA handed the information on the unsafe foodstuff to other Member States of the European Union via notification in the Rapid Alert System of Food and Feed (RASFF). Administration procedure on imposition of a fine will be initiated with the inspected person.
