Warning for consumers: CAFIA found confectionary product unsafe for persons with gluten allergy

05/02/2019

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found at retail food business operator THI THUY CAO, Jihoslovanská 2455/1 in Prostějov non-compliant foodstuff “Vangusto MANDARINKOVÉ MARSHMALLOW” packaged à 200g.

Analysis carried out by CAFIA proved presence of gluten amounting to 1,638 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). The producer stated on the labelling that “The product may contain trace amount of gluten.” The detected concentration of gluten was more than 30 times higher than the amount approvable as “traces”.

Consumers were thus misled as untrue information was stated on the labelling, and the foodstuff might cause health complications to persons with allergy or intolerance to gluten. CAFIA strongly recommends that the given group of consumers does not eat the foodstuff in question.

The uncompliant foodstuff was labelled with best before date by 12. 06. 2019, its producer was company Z.P.H.U. “Vangusto”, Zygmunt Podlewski, ul. Wieluńska 126 A, 98-330 Pajeczno, Poland.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
