Warning for celiacs: Polish gluten-free puffs with gluten

CAFIA entered information into the Rapid Alert System (RASFF) concerning current detection of foodstuff harmful to health. Kukuričné křupky (Corn puffs), gluten-free product, 100g, best before date: 09 2012, country of origin: Poland is the product concerned. The product failed due to presence of gluten which was detected within a laboratory analysis in the amount of 31.6mg/kg.
The foodstuff in question failed to comply with requirements of Article 14 of Regulation No. 178/2002 because it was offered as gluten-free while it contained gluten. It was also assessed as harmful to health. Upon the order of CAFIA, the importer REK s.r.o. Planá nad Lužnicí is withdrawing the product from its customers. The importer is elaborating a list of retail sellers.
Gluten is significant allergen and its unintentional consumption by a celiac may cause serious health complications. According to estimations, there are 40 000 – 50 000 patients suffering from celiac disease, lifelong gluten intolerance.
