The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) carried out an inspection of a consignment of foodstuffs imported from China. The inspection was carried out in the place of the customs area Praha – Uhříněves and it was based on a suggestion of the Customs Authorities. A metal packing container held foodstuffs of which import is explicitly forbidden into the EU countries, inter alia confectionery products in the shape of mini-cups, further foodstuffs affected with mould or insect, with occurrence of both living and dead insect and its excrements. Foodstuffs subject to strengthened official inspection during import from third countries were not provided with necessary documentation, e.g. tee, dried noodles, rice and some sorts of spices were concerned. A range of foodstuffs in the consignment was missing in the accompanying documentation and that is why neither their origin, nor exact denomination nor composition can be detected.
CAFIA initiated a procedure in order the consignment is not released onto the internal EU market.
