The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA), following its warning issued on 8 April 2026 concerning the product Nutrilon Advanced Good Night 1, infant formula (0–6 months), weight 800 g, best before: 10 November 2026, additional marking under BBD: 111511173 (Contact for the Czech Republic: Danone a.s., V parku 2294/2, 148 00 Prague 4 – Chodov), in which the presence of the cereulide toxin was detected, states that this product is harmful to health.
At the request of CAFIA, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) conducted a health risk assessment. In its latest conclusion, NIPH states that, based on the recommended dosage, exposure to cereulide corresponds to 0.022 µg/kg of body weight for a newborn, and therefore the product is considered harmful to health.
The detected level of cereulide in the batch exceeds the acute reference dose (ARfD) established by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which is 0.014 µg/kg of body weight.
The cereulide toxin may cause nausea and vomiting, which are particularly dangerous for newborns due to the risk of rapid dehydration. NIPH therefore considers the detected amount of cereulide in this food to be harmful to health within the meaning of Article 14(2)(a) of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002.
CAFIA has ordered Tesco Stores ČR a.s., at whose premises the sample was collected for laboratory analysis, to withdraw the batch from the market and recall it from consumers.
The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority strongly advises consumers not to feed this batch to infants.
As part of the extraordinary inspection campaign, CAFIA has so far taken 178 samples of powdered infant formula for laboratory analysis in an accredited laboratory.
An overview of all evaluated batches of infant formula—both compliant and non-compliant—is continuously published by CAFIA on the Food Pillory portal and on the CAFIA website.
The public will be promptly informed of any further non-compliant infant formulas.
