The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority ordered company MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o. to withdraw Kvašené okurky v slano-kyselém nálevu 650 g (Fermented cucumbers in salt and sour pickle), use by date 28. 5. 2012, country of origin Poland, producer: Przedsiebiorstwo Produkcyjno – Handlowe “JARYS” Jan Micyk, Chodóv 27, 32-250 Charsznica. The product in question failed due to content of formic acid, which was detected in the sample in the amount of 710mg/kg.
The Inspection Authority further ordered the same entrepreneur to withdraw Kysané zelí ve slaném nálevu 1 kg (Sauerkraut in salt pickle), use by date by 30. 04. 2012, country of origin Poland, producer Przedsiebiorstwo Produkcyjno – Handlowe “JARYS” Jan Micyk, Chodóv 27, 32-250 Charsznica, Poland. The product in question failed due to content of formic acid, which was detected in the sample in the amount of 1780 mg/kg.
Due to formic acid, which is not authorized by Decree No. 4/2008 Coll., the products were assessed as non-complying for human consumption from the reason of contamination by a foreign substance. Formic acid is a preservative used in feedstuffs for livestock.
Both products were today put into the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
