Two camions of instant noodles were not released into circulation

02/03/2010

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority in cooperation with the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic detained a consignment of instant noodles from China. CAFIA inspectors took samples from this consignment into laboratories where it was proved that noodles contained a higher amount of aluminium than it was set by the limit of the Ministry of Health for this kind of foodstuff. On the basis of laboratory results then CAFIA issued a binding position which did not allow releasing the consignment into circulation in the Czech Republic.
The consignment was divided into two camions, each of which transported more than 17 thousand kilograms of noodles. In total 70,200 packages were detained. The importer cannot use them for food purposes in the Czech Republic now. The consumers are not in danger; thanks to the action of CAFIA and customs officers the noodles with an exceeding limit of aluminium will not get into the distribution chain.

The information about this case was also sent to other EU Member States by means of the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
