The Prime Minister met the CAFIA top management

Bohumil Sobotka visited today the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA). Accompanied by deputies of the Minister of Agriculture, Viera Šedivá and Pavel Veselý, the Prime Minister met CAFIA Director General Martin Klanica.

The issue of quality and safety of foodstuffs sold on the Czech market with the stress on current matter of so-called double food standard and possible solutions were the main topics of the discussion. Sobotka was also interested in impact of recent amendments to Act on foodstuffs and Act on viniculture to CAFIA activities. The Prime Minister got also acquainted in detail with the structure, activities and responsibilities of the Authority.

Finally, the Prime Minister and his company visited the specialised workplace for wine analyses. These top laboratories analyse up to 1,500 samples a year and they have unique equipment available – nuclear magnetic resonance which is able to detect adulteration of geographical and botanical origin of wine.
