The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter CAFIA only) closed down immediately premises of Penny Market s.r.o. for serious violation of food hygienic rules. During inspection in premises of the above mentioned chain store based on street Pražská 25/1120, the Inspection Authority detected many traces of rodents’ presence in store area and live mice and mouse babies were found in the store facilities. On some spots in the premises was present smell characteristic for rodents.
In facilities area the Inspection Authority found excrements and plenty of discarded goods damaged by mice and eaten packages of foodstuff, mouse excrements were found on shelves with foodstuffs. Several boxes with goods for elimination were found in store area – e.g. clothes, shoes, chemist’s goods, toys etc. In one of the boxes was detected the above mentioned nest with mice and mouse babies.
Based on above mention findings the CAFIA stated serious violation of the Regulation (EC) 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs and imposed ban on the use of the store area for selling foodstuffs. The Inspection Authority further ordered to Penny Market s.r.o. to eliminate all irregularities found and undertake effective measures for pests extermination. The Inspection Authority will launch an administrative sanction procedure. Presence of rodents in food retail premises is serious risk for human health for possible transfer of serious illnesses from rodents.
