Tests confirmed antibiotics in further 19 lots of honey produced by Včelpo company

11/26/2015

Final laboratory analysis confirmed presence of residues of antibiotics in further 19 lots of honey produced by company Včelpo s.r.o. The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) is now releasing results of confirmatory analyses including detailed information on non-compliant samples in the table below.

The analysis confirmed presence of antibiotics streptomycin and sulfonamides – sulfathiazole, asulfadimidine. Presence of chloramphenicol has been confirmed in one case so far. They are pharmacologically effective substances of which use in the bees’ treatment is banned in the EU. Residues of such substances must not be present in honey. CAFIA sampled all lots in question in the Kaufland chain and suspended their placing on the market already during previous week based on the results of orientational tests. All important information was handed to the partner supervisory authority – the State Veterinary Administration.
