The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company Tesco Stores ČR a.s. to withdraw foodstuff TESCO Wafers WITH COCOA FLAVOURED FILLING packaged á 175g, lot with best before date by 241017 sold by Tesco Stores ČR a.s., Vršovická 1527/68b, 100 00 Prague 10 and originated in Poland. The product shall be withdrawn from all branches of Tesco.
CAFIA laboratory analysis proved presence of allergen – peanuts amounting to 253 mg/kg. The producer indicated on the labelling of the product: “The product may contain traces of shell fruit and peanuts.” However, the amount detected in the laboratory was higher than unintentional cross contamination if the rules for good hygiene practice are met. Consumption of the foodstuff with higher presence of allergens than given on the labelling may cause health complications to persons suffering from the allergy or intolerance to the respective allergenic ingredient.
Further investigation revealed that the lot placed on market by the seller amounted to 36,000 pieces (á 175g, total 6.3 tons), while 19,610 pieces were subsequently withdrawn from shelves (3.4 tons). CAFIA recommends all consumers suffering from allergy to peanuts and who may have the given lot of the foodstuff at home that they do not eat it.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
