Sale of half-fermented wine almost without deficiencies

12/13/2012

During inspection of half-fermented wine (“burčák”) and partially fermented grape must in 2012, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter “CAFIA” only) revealed one unsatisfactory sample so far. In the selling season lasting from August to November CAFIA checked 419 selling places, and 53 samples were taken for laboratory analysis. 46 samples were evaluated as satisfactory in all parameters, and the laboratory analyses are still continuing in case of 6 samples.
In 2011 CAFIA detected 12 unsatisfactory samples of the above mentioned products. Compared to the previous year, the amount of adulterated half-fermented wine (“burčák”) and partially fermented grape must detected in retail is significantly lower. “I am so glad that the culture of offering the beverage, which is unique for the South Moravian and the Czech Republic, is getting better. In my opinion, the reasons for this are consistent pressure of the Inspection Authority in last years and increasing awareness of consumers who often distinguish the quality.” Jakub Šebesta, Director General of CAFIA, said.
“Burčák” (half-fermented wine) is a traditional term pursuant to national and European legislation for partially fermented grape must processed on the territory of the Czech Republic exclusively from grapes grown in the Czech Republic.
