Retail chains stated the will to remove deficiencies

05/03/2012

After seven years, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority initiated the round table talks with the important retail chains´ representatives. The meeting was held on 2nd May 2012 in Brno. The inspection authorities were represented by the top management of CAFIA and the State Veterinary Administration, the important market subjects were represented by 29 top managers.
The discussion was open and mostly pragmatic. CAFIA Director General Jakub Šebesta stated that the aim of inspection authorities is not to impose as much fines as possible but to remedy the situation in stores. He appealed to the chains for cooperation as contemporary findings give nothing other than the confrontational approach. The representatives of inspection authorities also said that if the current practice doesn´t change, the authorities will be forced to raise the amount of proposed fines because their current level obviously lacks the desirable educational effect. CAFIA also would like to launch an internet portal where the list of the problem stores and defective products is going to be released.
The representatives of the retail chains stated that the detected unacceptable practices are not parts of their business strategy and declared their will to accept measures for remedy.
