The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter CAFIA only) ordered to company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s. to withdraw immediately from its stores raspberry jam „Raspberry Extra Jam“ in the 450g package with the best before date until March 27, 2015. According to the announcement the producer is Mühlhäuser GmbH from Germany. The lab analysis provided that the above mentioned batch contained sorbitol and floridizin, whereas raspberries cannot contain those substances at the amount detected. The analysis further detected other – on the packing not mentioned – fruit compounds. That way the labeling of the above mention product misleads the consumer in contrary to the article 16 Regulation (ES) 178/2002. Folridizin is a substance characteristic mainly for apples, which are the substitutes for more expensive ingredients in fruit jams, how it was already repeatedly detected by CAFIA.
The Kaufland branch stores received 28 350 pcs of adultered batch of jam and the retail store has withdrawn so far 3443 pcs. The sanction procedure with the premises operator will be launched.
