The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) carried out an extraordinary inspection focused on the quality of processed cheeses with the aim to check whether consumers are not misled during the sale or whether their quality is not violated.
Inspections were carried out in few retails. Within this inspection, 20 samples of processed cheeses were taken in total. Inspections were focused on the detection of products at which deficiencies were revealed in the past and also on private brands products of selected retail chains. Out of the samples assessed, 9 were of domestic production, one originated in a third country (Israel) and 10 were made in the Communities.
All these samples were analysed in the CAFIA laboratories as follows:
- triacylglycerols profile (comprise presence of plant fat);
- milk fat;
- plant fat.
Sensorial assessment of colour, aroma, taste, appearance, consistency, visible mould, microbial modifications, and condition of the packaging were also carried out on a random basis.
All samples assessed complied in all aspects. The results showed that the quality of processed cheeses including private brands put into circulation in the retails was more than good. Consumers were not misled or quality was not violated even in one single case.
Total summary of the samples taken is given in the Annex attached to this press release.
The situation from the year 2012 when in total 9 processed cheeses were assessed as unsatisfactory as regards content of milk fat and triacyglycerols profile, which failed to correspond to the milk fat, was thus not confirmed.
