The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter “CAFIA” only) ordered Penny Market s.r.o. to withdraw a foodstuff unfit for human consumption from all its branches and without undue delay – Tunisian Dates, candied dates with stone, packaged ŕ 200g with best before date by 30th December 2014, importer: ENCIGER spol. s.r.o., Bratislava. During the inspection at the premises at Hviezdoslavova street in Brno, the Inspection Authority revealed by sensorial assessment presence of pest larvas in dates – dead larvas, beetles and traces of their activities, particularly excrements and damaged fruits.
CAFIA ordered to withdraw the unsatisfactory foodstuff from the retail network as offering foodstuffs affected by pests is not acceptable due to its unsuitability for human consumption. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person. Dates and other dry fruits belong among the assortment which is sought-after by consumers especially at the pre-Christmas time. Therefore, this type of goods is one of the CAFIA inspection priorities.
