The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company Penny Market s.r.o. to withdraw non-compliant meat product Baron Gombasecká klobása (sausage) packaged à 400 g, lot L:191 and best before date by 3rd July 2016, producer: Púchovský mäsový priemysel, a.s., Vsetínska 1354/15, 020 39 Púchov, Slovakia.
The producer indicated, inter alia, on the labelling: 125 g of meat was used for the production of 100 g of the finished product. However, the laboratory analysis confirmed 103 g of meat per 100 g of the finished (dried) product only. The foodstuff was thus misleadingly labelled as regards the meat content even after the measurement uncertainty was taken into account. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
As regards dried meat products, the proportion of the weight of non-processed raw materials and of the finished dried product is indicated in the composition. With regard to the drying process, the total weight of raw materials is higher than the weight of the final product.
CAFIA recently detects an increased amount of adulterated foodstuffs, in particular of meat and milk products from abroad, for more information, see our press release of 30th June 2016.
