Packages of dried apples from China were withdrawn from the market

09/30/2008

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) suspended sale of one batch of dried apple rings from the company K-Servis Praha a. s. due to mouldy pieces and dead parasites detection in individual packages.

Material in the volume of one thousand kilograms was imported by K-Servis Praha from the Netherlands, nevertheless the apples are of Chinese origin. The company had them wrapped into consumer packages per 100 and 300 grams in the Czech Republic. Part of these packages in total weight of 283 kilograms was further distributed to Slovakia, the rest was intended for domestic market.

CAFIA ordered to withdraw these products from the market, therefore they should not be found in distribution chain any longer. However, major part of the packages concerned was already sold out at the time of withdrawal. Since the packages have a long durability (Apple rings, 300g package, best before: December 14, 2009; Apple rings, 100g package, best before: January 17, 2010), consumers can still have them stored at home. Therefore the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority recommends to customers to be cautious when consuming this foodstuff. Both the mould and parasites are megascopic on closer inspection.

Information about this case was loaded into the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
