The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority received through the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed information that soy sauce originating from Vietnam containing exceeded levels of 3-MCPD (3-monochlorophane-1,2-diol) could appear on the Czech market. The limit laid down by legislation is 20 micrograms per one kilogram, however, laboratory tests revealed that the sauce in question contained 75,5 micrograms per one kilogram.
A consequent inspection in premises of company DALAT, s.r.o. confirmed that the information is true. Inspectors revealed that in April of this year, the company imported in total 24 thousand pieces of this sauce (Soy sauce Chin-su, 250 ml, best before 25 February 2010). A part, namely 4200 pieces, was further distributed to Slovakia, however, the remaining part was intended for the Czech market. The Inspection Authority therefore ordered the company to inform all its purchasers and to withdraw the sauce in question from them. Inspectors also took samples of another batch of soy sauce from the same Vietnamese producer, at which the amount of 3-MCPD will be checked by laboratory tests.
Due to long durability of this product, consumers may still have it at home, therefore the Inspection Authority recommends not eating this sauce. However, health risk may result only from long-term consumption of higher amount of this sauce.
