During a retail network inspection, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter “CAFIA” only) currently detected 59 serious deficiencies in twenty stores of big retail chains and minor sellers. 

In Jednota store – Přehořov, product for children - Antony´s children ham with scratched use-by-date was offered six days after the expiration of its use-by-date. Chicken sausages which were unfit for consumption and determined for children were found by inspectors in store Billa in České Budějovice.

Indication of untrue/extended use-by-date on meat and milk products is one of the most serious offences from the point of view of food safety. However, CAFIA cannot state improvement in this matter, and its findings repeat again and again. In Hruška store in Javorník the use-by-date of meat products was extended by 2 days; in Jednota store in Uherský Ostroh, the over-the-counter section offered ham salami which was 3 days after use-by-date given by the producer. Untrue use-by-date was detected in branch of Albert store in Litomyšl or Konzum store in Ústí nad Orlicí.

In Kaufland store in Havířov CAFIA detected seventeen items with untrue labelled country of origin in the section of fresh fruit and vegetables. The same offence of the same retail chain was repeated in stores in Jindřichův Hradec and Šumperk. In Kaufland store in Česká Lípa CAFIA made a seizure of frozen filets from Alaskan Pollack in which ca. 10% lower share of meat compared to the data declared on the labelling was confirmed by analysis.
