Surprising amount of deficiencies at the fruit and vegetables department was found by inspectors during an inspection of Penny Market s.r.o. store, at Čechova Street in Benešov. Total amount of 95 packages of fruit and vegetables originating in Spain, Belgium, Marocco, and the Czech Republic failed to meet the minimal quality requirements due to presence of mould and rot. The seller offered eight kinds of unsatisfactory goods as prime quality.  

For example, over two-thirds of the carrot package were visibly rotten and they were supposed to be removed from selling rack long ago. The Lemon Paternita package, where only a half of the goods - 22 out of 44 packages were without a mouldy trace, was also the case. As regards mandarins, three-fourths of the package were visibly mouldy – 18 out of 28 packages on the shelf. More than twenty percent of goods at the  fruit and vegetables department were found as unfit for human consumption and the ban on putting them into circulation was made out. CAFIA found this extent of findings as extraordinary.

The inspection found out that hygiene requirements were also not observed, some pieces of expired and mouldy baked goods were on the floor at the bakery department. The deficiencies were removed on the spot by the store staff.

Administrative procedure on imposition of a fine will be initiated with the inspected person.
