Makro withdraws further adulterated Alaska cods

06/07/2016

Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o to immediately withdraw non-compliant lot of frozen foodstuff Alaska cod – filets packaged à 1 kg with best before date by 24th June 2017, importer: Frigoexim s.r.o., Březinova cesta 136, Litoměřice, country of origin: China.

The labelling of the foodstuff, inter alia, indicated: Weight after dripping 800 g (note: i.e. the meat content 80%). However, the laboratory analysis revealed that the content of meat was 46.3% only. The information on the labelling was thus misleading as regards the real content of meat, and CAFIA ordered the inspected person to withdraw the adulterated lot of the foodstuff from sale. CAFIA will also initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.

It is repeated case of detection of adulterated frozen fish sampled in Makro and imported by Frigoexim, see the press release of 19th May 2016. CAFIA recently reveals an increased occurrence of imported frozen fish where tens of per cents of meat are missing compared to the information stated on the labelling.
