Kofola withdraws bad smelling Ice Tea from stores

12/19/2007

Based on a consumer complaint, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority carried out an inspection of soft drink JUPÍ Ice Tea Lemon (0.5 litre, best before 05/2008) in a Hypernova supermarket in Prague. CAFIA inspectors banned on the spot further distribution of this drink due to unsatisfactory sensory properties – the product had an unnatural chemical smell, was turbid and contained curdled lumps. The unsatisfactory batch can be identified by its number L239 on the cap.

The drink was manufactured by the company Kofola that distributed part of this batch to Slovakia and Poland. The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority ordered the manufacturer to immediately inform all his customers of this deficiency and to withdraw the product from the market. The company also undertook to re-examine the purity and quality of raw materials used for the manufacture of this drink.
