The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s. to withdraw adulterated foodstuff from all its branches. Following product is concerned: K – Classic tomato Ketchup – tomato fine ketchup packaged à 500 ml with best before date by 20th March 2018, country of origin: Poland.
The producer indicated on the labelling: “100g of ketchup was made from 205g of tomatoes” (note: 100g of finished ketchup from 205g of raw tomatoes). However, CAFIA laboratory analysis confirmed presence of tomatoes amounting to 152g per 100g of ketchup only. Indicating misleading information, the producer violated applicable legislation and CAFIA inspectors ordered to withdraw the non-compliant lot from the market.
Follow-up investigation revealed that the total size of the non-compliant lot comprised 14,112 pieces, out of which 575 were withdrawn upon the measure. The remaining part has already been purchased by consumers at the branches of the seller.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
