According to current findings of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA), there is an increased number of adulterated meat products on the market which originate from abroad and of which labelling provides misleading information as regards the meat content. The proportion of the meat ingredient provided by producers on the labelling is by tens of percents lower compared to the reality. CAFIA informed of current cases in its press releases of 6th June, 18th May or 13th May.
Within current inspection activities, CAFIA, by means of a national-wide measure, ordered company JIP východočeská, a. s. to immediately withdraw from its retail network foodstuff Párky G&G Šunkové packaged à 380 g with best before date by 18th December 2017, distributor: P.S.P. Praha s.r.o., country of origin: Germany.
The producer indicated on the labelling, inter alia, that the meat content in the packaging was 85%, however, the laboratory analysis confirmed presence of meat amounting to 71.6% only. Despite taking the 7.1% of uncertainty measurement into account, the foodstuff fails to comply with legislation requirements as it misleads consumers. CAFIA further ordered the seller to have the foodstuff tested for the meat content on his own expenses.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
