Results of laboratory analysis proved that apricot content in these jams was lower than specified on the label and than prescribed by the relevant Decree. Moreover, Polish jam was bulked out with pieces of pumpkin which was not included in the list of ingredients. This was classified as consumer deception.
The other case was a consumer complaining about mouldy jam bought in a Norma store. Based on this complaint, CAFIA inspectors took samples of two jams in which almost half total sugar content than prescribed was subsequently identified. Since sugar in jams serves as a preserving agent, these jams can go bad before their storage period expires. The following products imported from Poland were concerned:
Penny Market and Norma have already withdrawn the products from sale. Consumers who purchased any of these products before their withdrawal can claim them at the point of purchase or at the Czech distributor.
