Inspection Authority seized consignment of mouldy cabbage from China

05/05/2014

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) did not release a consignment of foodstuffs from China onto the EU internal market. The consignment failed to comply with requirements for food safety laid down by legislation. CAFIA detected the consignment in question in the customs warehouse of the Capital City of Prague.
The inspection revealed that a significant part of the consignment of pickled cabbage is affected by visible mould which, in some cases, grows through the lids of containers and contaminates thus the foodstuff. The consignment comprises 120 plastic bottles with pickled vegetables without labelling. Weight of one bottle is 1.5 kg. Furthermore, mandatory information on the date of production or best before date is missing.
Company LIU SHI HONG FA s.r.o., Kolbenova street 7/890, 190 00 based in Prague is the importer of the pickled vegetables into the CR. Company LIU SHI HONG FA s.r.o., Kolbenova 7/890, 190 00 from China is the supplier of the consignment.
CAFIA seized the goods even before placing on the market and consumers were thus not directly threatened.
