Inspection Authority found more unsafe and misleadingly labelled meat products

10/24/2013

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) warns consumers of foodstuffs unsafe for persons allergic to soya – Best paštika s kachním masem na víně (pâté with duck meat and wine) packaged à 120 g with best before date by 22. 12. 2013, distributed and imported by Laska Dalboss, spol. s r. o., Wichterlova 2372/10, Prague, country of origin:Poland. Laboratory analysis showed that the lot in question contained soya protein and this fact was not indicated on the labelling. Pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002, this foodstuff is unsafe for persons with allergy to soya. The product was put into circulation at premises of Thi Minh Nguyet Tran, Masarykovo náměstí 62 in Brodek near Přerov.
The Inspection Authority further detected unsatisfactory lot of foodstuff Morliny drůbeží hamburger smažený (fried poultry hamburger) packaged à 250 g with use by date 25. 10. 2013, producer: Opole, Poland. Laboratory analysis showed that the lot in question contained polyphosphate (P205) amounting to 1.170 mg/kg which was not indicated on the labelling. Relevant legislation explicitly stipulates that presence of any additives shall be indicated on the labelling and if not, it could be assessed as misleading of consumers. The product in question was put into circulation by company NORMA, k.s. CAFIA sampled the product at premises of the company at Na Dlouhých 51 street in Plzeň. The Inspection Authority ordered the seller to withdraw the non-complying lot from its retail network.
The amount of consumer packagings put this way into circulation is a subject of further investigation. Administrative procedure on imposition of a fine will be initiated with the inspected persons.
Within this action focused on safety and quality of meat products that was ordered by Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Toman, CAFIA has detected 8 lots of unsafe or misleadingly labelled foodstuffs so far (see also press releases of 16th and 18th October 2013) and further 33 lots of foodstuffs with other types of violation of legislation – e.g. storing of foodstuffs under inappropriate temperature, missing labelling in the Czech language or foodstuffs with deformed or damaged wraps.
