Inspection Authority closed down Penny Market in Karlovy Vary

04/09/2013

Serious offences against hygienic regulations were detected by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) in a shop of Penny Market s. r. o. company at Stará Kysibelská 642/73, 360 01 Karlovy Vary. During the inspection carried out on 8 April 2013, CAFIA found mice excrements and other traces of rodents’ activity including eaten foodstuffs in the premises. With respect to the fact that the premises failed to comply with conditions enabling maintenance of food safety, the Inspection Authority immediately imposed ban on the use of the premises and banned putting on the market all the foodstuffs with traces of rodents’ presence. The ban was imposed in compliance with Act No. 146/2002 Coll. CAFIA further ordered the producer to put the premises into compliance with requirements of legislation and to ensure appropriate rodent extermination in co-operation with a specialised company. The seller fulfilled the imposed measures and the ban was lifted today on 9 April 2013 after a repeated inspection.

For the mentioned malpractices, the Inspection Authority launched an administrative procedure with the food business operator.
