On the basis of an inspection carried out at company Kaufland Czech Republic v.o.s, inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered to withdraw from the circulation product Plum jam one-component with low sugar content (best before date 21. 12. 2011, product weight 240 g). This jam was imported from Poland by company BENEFIT Ltd. Želechovice nad Dřevnicí, which then supplied it to companies Kaufland Czech Republic v.o.s. and VERNER Food Ltd.
Plum jam cannot be put into circulation, because it contained fragments of stones, including stems. According to legislation, the product is not fit for human consumption as food must not be contaminated by foreign matters or otherwise.
BENEFIT company Ltd. was ordered to withdraw immediately the food from all its customers. If consumers have plum jam with the mentioned best before date at home, CAFIA does not recommend their consumption.
With regard to the fact that broken stones pose a risk for the consumers, the information mentioned above was sent to the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASSF) which notifies other Member States of European Union of this food.
