The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority ordered to withdraw from the circulation product STILLA natura Pears dried sweetened (lot identification: L:46/08, best before date 8. 6. 2011, product weight 175 g) originating from China. Laboratory analyses have shown that that product contained sulphur dioxide in amount exceeding the allowable limit.
The maximum allowable amount of sulphur dioxide for the sweetened dried fruit is 100 mg/kg. However, the sample taken contained sulphur dioxide in the amount of 656 mg/kg.
Carbon dioxide is used to preserve food but can also be used as an antioxidant. Wine or right dried fruits are the products which are being sulphurated the most frequently.
Slovak company Vetter Slovakia Ltd., which has supplied the food to company Kaufland Czech Republic v.o.s., is the producer of consumer packaging.
Due to the long expiration date, consumers might still have the product STILLA natura Pears dried sweetened at home. The Inspection Authority does not recommend its consumption.
