Forty tonnes of mouldy raisins have not been released onto the market

07/13/2009

A forty-tonne consignment of Chinese raisins aimed at the European market was transported over the Czech territory. Upon the warning from the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic the inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) controlled this consignment and found out that it was not possible to release it into circulation because the raisins were affected by moulds. These were in many cases visible even on the boxes in which the raisins were transported. The consignment in two containers comprised of 3200 raisins’ cartons of various lots. Now the whole amount has to be destroyed by the importer or returned to the supplier.
Thanks to the cooperation of the customs officers and CAFIA the moulded raisins will not reach the market and will not endanger the consumers by any way.
CAFIA will inform other EU Member States about the case by means of the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
