Foodstuffs with the KLASA mark were almost without deficiencies

01/25/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) has been carrying out the regular inspection activity focused on the foodstuffs awarded by the national quality mark KLASA already for 13 years. In 2015, the CAFIA inspectors assessed the total of 215 lots of foodstuffs labelled this way. The KLASA products shall comply not only with requirements laid down by national and European food legislation, but also with requirements laid down by conditions for the use of the national quality mark.

Within the inspections that were carried out throughout the whole year, the inspectors found out violation of rules laid down by the KLASA mark in two cases:

(1.) 100% pear juice containing sulphur dioxide, of which presence is not authorised in a foodstuff labelled as 100% juice. The producer thus violated the European Regulation on food additives.

(2.) cake with strawberry filling, which was not labelled with the KLASA logo and the obligation to label the product by 6 months from the awarding at the latest was thus not met.

At the present time, the inspections are carried out few months after the product is awarded by the KLASA mark. At the same time, each awarded product is checked at least once in two years.

The results of the inspections clearly show the high standard of safety, quality and hygiene of the foodstuffs awarded by the KLASA award. The results of the previous inspections are available on the Food Pillory website.
