Food supplement Manayupa without appropriate labelling on ionizing irradiation

11/14/2014

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered to withdraw from the market food supplement MANAYUPA packaged as 100 pieces of capsules à 35 mg sušené mleté byliny (dried ground herbs), lot 010812, best before date by 1st August 2015, producer ORO VERDE s.r.o., Petrohradská 23/7a, Prague. CAFIA laboratory analysis proved that the product was treated by ionizing radiation and this information was missing on the labelling. Food legislation lays down the obligation to provide consumers with information on treatment by ionizing radiation of foodstuffs or ingredients. Radiation is one of the ways how to destroy microorganisms. CAFIA sampled the lot in question directly at the producer and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine.
